At the moment I am playing catch up with some of the gigs and jobs I shot towards the end of last year. In probably one of only a handful of Brisbane Entertainment Centre shows for 2011, in October I shot Def Leppard for Everguide.Tags: 2011, 2012, band, bec, boondall, brisbane, brisbane entertainment, brisbane entertainment centre, concert, def leppard, elleni, elleni toumpas, heart, live music, music, musician, photographer, photography, photos, stage, tour

Things have been quiet on the gig front for the past few months as the end of my 2011 saw me shooting a tonne of band portraits, corporate events and weddings. This hasn’t left much time for shooting live music. However my 2012 kicked off a little differently with my first shoot back for the work year covering Alpine at The Zoo. Alpine are a band I had heard small snippets from during the year, but had fallen heavily for during the summer break. Their live show was going to make or break my appreciation for the band as their sound on record works but on stage could easily fall apart with bad mixes or a lackluster ’shoe gazing’ performance. Luckily, the show was anything but lackluster with both Lou and Phoebe combining an amazing, sultry and energetic energy with almost perfect renditions of their loved and lesser known tracks.
Of course I am not a writer, so just take a look at some of the photos from the night. More photos after the jump…Tags: 2012, alpine, brisbane, concert, elleni, elleni toumpas, Live, live music, stage, the zoo

Last week I went along to The Zoo to photograph Dead Letter Cirucs for Everguide. The day before the Ekka public holiday, the show sold out earlier that day, so getting in early to get prime spot was mandatory.Tags: brisbane, closure in moscow, concert, dead letter circus, dlc, elleni, elleni toumpas, gig, Live, music, the zoo, toumpas

Last Friday night Busby Marou played a sold out show at the Old Museum for their Biding My Time tour. Quickly becoming a favoured venue for musicians, the beautiful Old Museum was transformed even further with a lighting treatment of bare globes and rich colour washes. A pleasure to shoot and even more of a pleasure to watch. One thing that I found peculiar though was the quite eclectic crowd that had come along tonight. I could not help make comparisons with some of the female adoring fans and the type that would frequent some of those city pubs that most music goers would tend to avoid. I am not too sure what this says about the band, but everyone seemed to enjoy their night, so I am hoping it is nothing but positives.

Things have been a bit hectic over here. In the past two months I have only shot one live gig, and I am finally getting around here to blog the pictures here. Katy Perry at Brisbane Entertainment Centre on the 5th May. As it was a sound desk shoot, and being the short photographer I am, this shoot was a little difficult in timing to get shots through the hands of fans.

So I headed out again today to document the rising Brisbane flood waters. I’ll keep this entry short and sweet as I am about to nap before heading out again. Above photo is of 9 week old puppy Lola who was resting after walking through rising flood waters on Victoria Street, Windsor.

So this year I have been helping out a bit with Blair Hughes and his Brsbane Sounds project. For those who know Blair you know how passionate he is about the local music scene and how proactive he is about getting shit done. I like that. On Saturday he hosted a little Xmas shindig at the Zoo with a tonne of bands that have been associated with Brisbane Sounds during the year. A lot of booze was drunk. A lot of merriment was shared. Congrats to Blair on a stellar 2010. I can’t wait to see where the project grows to in 2011.
Pics from the Christmas party are below. Along with quite a few of trashed Santa.

No Sleep Til, what can I say. The first shoot of my summer festivals and it definitely left me and my cameras a little battered and bruised. Even though this shoot was the first of the SUMMER festival season with the weather it definitely felt like a festival not dissimilar to the weather produced by the mid-year Splendour festival. A lot raining and a little bit cold, considering to throw on a scarf to shoot this festival was definitely not something that felt at home in December.Tags: 2010, august burns red, brisbane, concert, descendants, elleni, elleni toumpas, festival, frenzal rhomb, gig, hardcore, katatonia, megadeth, metal, music, no fx, no sleep til, nofx, photographer, photography, punk, rna showgrounds, suicide tendancies, toumpas
