So today was another day in the clean up after the Brisbane floods. Again I was out at Chelmer helping the same friend and again I had to park my car out of the residents area and walk in to the suburb to clean. This time the police and army had stepped up the road blocks and I had to walk 40 minutes to get to the house, across two suburbs. It wasn’t so bad as it gave me a chance to do some more photojournalism before arriving to lift stuff and sort through piles of thrown out rubbish to salvage anything that had been accidentally thrown out.

So I haven’t been shooting as much the past two days as I have moved my focus to helping a friend clean up her family home which was hit hard. The house is in Chelmer and came right through the house. I have snapped a few photos on the way there and a couple as we knock off each night but once there I mainly left the camera aside to do whatever I can. On the first day I only really helped out for three hours and today was only there from 1:00 as it took me almost 3 hours to get there. There have been random people though helping, friends pulling crews together of 15 + people, some of her old highschool friends that she hasn’t seen since highschool dropping in. I know this is just one story, but you can see the same story over and over again in each house.

End of Day 3 of the Brisbane floods sees me mainly hitting two areas to get a few snapshots just before the sun goes down. I start by photographing Victoria Street in Windsor again as I had received a frantic email from a current Canberra resident who has a house on this street. She had not managed to get through to the tenants and had no idea what the state of her house was. It turns out the tenants were currently overseas and had no idea their hometown was experiencing flooding. On hearing reports that her home was only hit knee height she was extremely relieved and sent out all her best wishes to the Brisbane homes that were hit harder.

Last night I headed out to take shots as the sun rose in the shut down Brisbane CBD.We set out from a little before midnight so we can try and capture the mood of a normally bustingly city now shut down in most parts from people and electricity.

So I headed out again today to document the rising Brisbane flood waters. I’ll keep this entry short and sweet as I am about to nap before heading out again. Above photo is of 9 week old puppy Lola who was resting after walking through rising flood waters on Victoria Street, Windsor.

So today has been the first day that Brisbane has been under any serious threat from the South East Queensland flooding. Evacuations have been occurring around low lying areas and a general sense of nervousnes is starting to rise. Experts predict floods will hit its peak in two days, these images come from the first evening and night taking in the effects so far from the flood waters.

Last month my beautiful girlfriend got more work done on her sleeve. She gets her work done at True Love, with head artist Mez. I came along to take some snaps as I’ve never seen a tattoo session before.

The clouds and jelly beans were added in this session. This is when they had just been outlined.

The trip was also the first tattoo for my partner’s best mate. In their circle of friends its a bit of a tradition to get a ‘stache tattoo done. My partner has two of her very own. Apparently its the most painful of the tatts you can get done.
Here is her friend Jac putting on a brave face.
