Last night I headed out to take shots as the sun rose in the shut down Brisbane CBD.We set out from a little before midnight so we can try and capture the mood of a normally bustingly city now shut down in most parts from people and electricity.

This photo was shot down the end of Creek Street near Eagle Street Pier end.

The only word to describe how the city felt was eerie. Even in parts where there was no water damage, having a city completely quiet except for distant alarms and in some parts rushing water, just felt completely unusual.

And the above was shot down Alice Street which was COMPLETELY in darkness. For the photographers out there this was a 30 second exposure at 2.8 shot at 1250 ISO. Just to give you an idea of how dark it was.

Back in the middle of the CBD volunteers were working hard to sand bag and protect business. These guys were backpackers from the UK doing their part to help the city they were visiting.

Even with all the help in the city some businesses were already under water.

Down by the Riverside Expressway you get a real indication of how high the Brisbane River has risen.

The water levels were compleltely covering the bike paths under the expressway.

As the sun rose over Brisbane many onlookers came out to investigate the damage. Through reports I have heard online, I am guessing many were relieved that the levels didn’t get as high as initially reported. With the worse parts over, many are now looking at the damages that have occurred and how to begin the slow process of cleaning and then rebuilding.

I know many people have been following this blog, and some of you might not be in an affected area. If you want to help out but don’t know how, then think about donating to the Queensland Government Flood Relief Fund. The link is here: http://www.qld.gov.au/floods/donate.html

I appreciated these photo. Wishing all a speeding recovery. –From Florida, USA

  • I think you lost the feel of the tragedy in some by making the lighting look so pleasant.
    Great work though :-)

  • Fantastic photos! Nicely captured

  • Love ya Brisbane

  • I’ve been following your blog Leni and I’m absolutely amazed by all your shots. They are truly astounding, I admit there are thousands of photos of the floods and the clean up. But yours captures so much more. If I find someone willing to make a book about this flood I will suggest your photos to be used. All proceeds raised from it would go to the flood victims.

Keep it up the amazing job.

  • Great work, sad thanks.
